I got the job
This summer my new boss, "Boss Lady" called me into her office to ask me what my plans were. Basically, she has connections downtown and she got word that I applied for other jobs. I informed her that my plan wasn't to teach forever, I went to grad school and I wanted to use the high priced education. She let me know that she understood and that she had the same feeling thus her new position. At the time that we talked she had only been the principal for a few days after teaching for about three years. So I was inspired by her after we talked. I went home and about a week later I got a call from her. I went to her office and she let me know that there was a job position open for a grant program that the school got. The position was to oversee the schools after school program. She gave me all of the information and immediately after I left I became afraid because this was one of my goals for myself. To run a supplemental program for students. Well, a couple of days before school started I got word that the job was posted on a Thursday and I needed to turn it in by that Monday. They put the crunch on my. I immediately got my resume and cover letter together and the new asst. principal, Drew, wrote me a nice recommendation letter. I turned it in and informed Boss Lady and Drew that it was done. A week after school starts the acting Dean comes to me and ask me if I was leaving. "What, Huh?" I told him that I applied for the job at the school. He said that in the office he heard that I applied for a district program and that I would be leaving. I was dumbstruck. I hadn't the slightest idea what he was talking about. Later on that evening HR comes to my classroom and ask me what job I was applying for. I was again dumbstruck and I asked the lady if I put the wrong job number on my application. She didn't want to say, but again asked me which job I wanted, the school building job or the district wide job. I told her that I wasn't interested in the district job at all. I then became embarrassed because she told me that Boss Lady didn't want to mention anything to me if I wanted the district job. "What, huh?" I was so lost. I went to Boss Lady and told her that I didn't apply for the other job and that I felt bad for the screw up. She told me not to feel bad, but that if I wanted the other job, mostly likely I would have gotten it. Well, I told her that I didn't want the other job even though it would have been more status because the other job was totally grant funded and with the way the government is who knows if those jobs will be funded next year. Also, I told her that with the building job I would be paid more because I will be teaching and overseeing the program. Well, after all of that was straightened out, Boss Lady and asst. principal interview me--"what's your favorite color, what's your favorite food, etc." It was the easiest interview that I've ever had. We simply talked about the program and what could be done.
I got the offer today for the position. I accepted even though it wasn't the pay that was mentioned. Supposedly I would be salaried, but they have me at an hourly rate, not to exceed $14,000. So I want my fully $14,000 so I have to actually put in all of the hours to make that much. I'm supposed to start on Monday. I'm so nervous, but excited at the same time. My biggest challend would be to get the students to come. How many students want to stay after school?
