Coy Wire
I met Coy Wire here in Dallas. He was speaking at the hotel. He was very inspirational. He enocouraged the people to have lofty aspirations and to keep positive attitudes. He told this story:
While driving in Buffalo, he was approaching a toll booth and he heard this blasting music. He looked around to see who was hosting a rock concert in their car but noticed that everyone had their windows up but proceeded to approach the booth and noticed that the man collecting his money was playing the music. He asked the man, "what are you doing?" and he replied, "I'm having a party while dancing around." He asked what about the other people at the other booths, "they aren't invited?" and they laughed as he went along his way. He was intrigued by this man and wanted to find him to ask him more questions because at the time he couldn't because there were others in line after him.
A month later, he drove up to the same booth and heard the music and the guy was dancing and having a good time. He asked him again," what are you doing?" and the man replied, "i'm having a party," and then he recognized him from before. When Coy realized that he recognized him, he asked, "you having the same party as before?'" and the guy explained that he wanted to be a dancer. He asked about his co-workers and the man replied, "aw they in vertical coffins, they come to work at 8 every morning and die and like Lazarus raise from the dead at 4:30 to go home." He said, "see me, I've got the best job, my goal is to become a dancer and my job pays for my training, I've got the best office with windows on all sides." Coy was very intrigued by this man and then the man said, "I even got pretty ladies giving me money all day." They both shared a laugh and Coy invited him to lunch to talk more becuase he couldn't believe that someone has this type of attitude on this type of job.
Coy was letting the people know that a positive attitude can change the outcome of anything. After his speech I was leaving the hotel and noticed Coy standing talking to a couple of people. I wanted to let him know that I heard his speech and enjoyed it and I wanted to ask him for a picture. One lady standing next to him was looking around so I asked her if he would mind and she said that he was a nice man and that I should ask. So I did. I told him that I enjoyed his speech and that I was a teacher and the very first lesson I taught was about attitude and that I was gonna use his story with my students. He told me to go ahead and I asked for a picture of him and his wife.
